Who is this highly opiniated angry little man?

I am a middle aged Australian, who has been banished to frozen wasteland that is Norway.  Worse still, I live (I use the term loosely) in a particular region called Hallingdal which is rural and they like American pickups and country music.  It is where dreams go to die.

I am a traveller who put down roots after meeting the love of my life whilst working on a square rigger in Malta.  My wife is Norwegian and we have 2 beautiful daughters.

I have always been one to try things, to find out for myself and my nomadic lifestyle has dictated that I locate employment quickly and easily, thus I ended up working in Hospitality and tourism predominately.  I have dabbled in high end photo-graphics, sales and currently have a little handyman business up in the Geilo area.

I talk too much, am aggressive (not violent, I just hate wanking around) and people think I don’t listen (I multi-task).  I have no tolerance for fools, distrust authority and believe that loyalty and trust must be earned, they cannot be contracted, bought or demanded.  I have an over developed sense of right and wrong (mainly from doing wrong and getting my fingers burnt) and have a real problem with the way the world seems to be heading.  I believe that those who make no mistakes, make nothing and that the trick is to learn from our own and others mistakes.

The area I live in is beautiful, but it’s too small, cold and closed minded for me to thrive.  If the locals stopped sabotaging one another and cooperated, it could be really great, but that is not likely to happen.  Not for a while anyway and I just can’t wait that long.

I want to get a career going, but really haven’t got a clue as to what to do, I just know I want to travel and work with people, I need to earn a decent salary, but money is not, and never has been a real motivator for me.

So, there you go, I am a opinionated, brazen loudmouth immigrant with a chip on my shoulder.

What i blog here is my opinion based on what I know.  If you disagree, or differ in your opinion I welcome the input as I believe that it by debate and discussion that knowledge is hared and that personal growth in enabled.

I don’t think that I am always right (although I am sure there are some who think that), just that until I am proved wrong or enlightened as to my misunderstanding or why my opinion is flawed, I will stick to my guns.

So if you disagree, let me know, but be sure as to tell my why.  If you don’t like what I write, well, life is full of disappointments.  If you are offended by what I have to say, well offence is a deeply personal issue and what offends you might amuse another.  It really is your own problem and perhaps you should seek counselling or find a support group who share your fragility…

I am stuck here, trying my best and meeting lots of obstacles that by all rights shouldn’t be there in a supposedly rich and modern western country that allegedly values its freedom and openness.  I get mad, pissed off in fact and I can tend to go off like a frog in a sock.

But at least I can laugh about it.

It is a pleasure to be the first to respond to your blog. Your fast and creative. I am really impressed. At some point you have to change this to Norwegian to catch a bigger audience. Meanwhile you will amuse a lot of people and give a year to publish the book. Good luck and keep it coming. Don´t forget to annexed “You know you are in Norway to long if”.

    Is it a woman ?

  3. Found the love of my life, a woman who not only completes me, but is also so immeasurably patient as to put up with me!

It aint all bad, but the constant rejections and challenges have worn me down and it’s easy to get a little bitter.

But in the immortal words of Malcolm Fraser; “Life wasn’t meant to be easy.”
